In 2006 Oviedo enters Thermal Villas, a section of the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces.

The Section impels its activities of promotion with the support of the General Secretariat of Tourism of the Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Commerce. The municipalities with mineral water and thermal of all Spain, recently grouped in a specific section of the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP), set out to impel the integral development of their territories from the valuation of their hidrominerales resources. The singularity and fragility of the surgencias of mineral water and thermal require a special attention of the set of public administrations, to equip to the thermal municipalities of the conditions of competitiveness demanded by an increasing demand of health tourism. Of the thermal stations the improvement and, its city-planning arrangement, valuation and the planning protection water-bearing thermal of the environmental surroundings, the complementary infrastructure dowry, equipment and services to the thermal supply, as well as the modernization of the bath facilities, is some of the challenges that have seted out the Section of Thermal Municipalities of the FEMP.
