IGLESIAS Y PALACIOS

THE HOUSE OF THE RUA. (Rúa
St.)
Built by the end of the
14th century. The entrance is a semicircular
arch with the Rua and Cienfuegos ‘ coat
of arms for decoration.

CHAPEL OF LA BALESQUIDA (Alfonso
II Square)
In one corner of the square
we can see the Chapel of la Balesquida,
or Velasquita Giraldez, honoured in
this place on account of her generous
donations to the Brotherhood of Los
Sastres (The Tailors), whose scissors
still hang from the balcony.

SAN TIRSO. (Alfonso II Square)
By the Cathedral, we can
find the Church of San Tirso el Real.
It was a significant part of the primitive
complex erected by Alfonso II, the
Chaste. The temple underwent Oviedo’s
fire in the year 1521, and as a result,
all that remains is the front apron
of the Major Chapel at Santa Ana’s
street and the lower part of the tower.
What can be seen there is a window
with three hollows which was opened
in the upper chamber of the old presbytery.
